凶 - Kyou: bad luck; bad fortune, evil; wickedness
Kaiki Deishuu
Kai 貝 aka shell or shellfish combined with Ki 木 ends up with a hollow, dead tree-seeming meaning. Deishuu can also be read as dorofune 泥舟 which can mean a boat made of mud or a boat to transport mud. It connects to Kanbaru's old friend Numachi Rouka whose basketball nickname was doronuma 泥沼 aka bog, which implies mud. In Hanamonogatari, Numachi basically says that she and Kaiki are the same kind. Mud fits both of their personalities well.
One of the many interesting things about Kaiki is his connection to Araragi, another character with a 木 in his name. I don’t really know what the combination of arara 阿良々 means (though 阿 can be used in aho 阿呆 which would be fitting since he has an ahoge) but 良 means good, which is easy enough to interpret. Good tree vs. hollow tree. They both also have a connection to Senjougahara. In Nisemonogatari Kaiki says he knew she had feelings for him, and Senjougahara afterwards confirms it. The reason why she fell in love with both may be because they were both similar, but the most important difference between Araragi and Kaiki is that while Kaiki is a mature and competent person he is not capable of honesty, especially the emotional kind. Araragi is the opposite, with little to no competence, which is something that is communicated in basically every single battle scene involving him and most importantly at the end of Second Season in Koimonogatari, where just being the nice guy isn’t enough. But that is Araragi’s strength. His capability for empathy is far greater than Kaiki’s, and that’s why he is the perfect pick for Senjougahara. Kaiki and Araragi are sides of the same coin on multiple levels.
